Alcohol Abuse at an Event In 2013, statistics show that â€Å"87% of people aged from 18 and older† (NIH), consume alcohol at some point in their lifetime. Why do people go to a party and consume alcohol? It may be all caused by pressure: social pressure and peer pressure. Alcohol has detrimental effects, both physical and mental health. Alcohol’s detrimental effects lead to the results of drinking and driving, antisocial behaviour, and it causes self embarrassment. Alcohol should not be served at an event. When alcohol is served at a party, unless a designated driver is used, the guests drive home drunk. Driving home drunk can cause severe consequences. Brad Tuttle, writer for Time Magazine, in an article he wrote â€Å"Skip the DUI and get a free ride home on July 4† claims that â€Å"By most accounts, it’s also the deadliest day of the year on the roads, with an average of 127 people dying in car crashes every Fourth of July† (Time 93). On the Fourth of July, people get drunk. Hosts at the party should help prevent guests from driving under the influence. No host wants to have fun the night before and attend the funeral they caused the next day. Who would want to live with death in their conscience? Death isn’t the only reason to avoid drinking at a party. What Are the Parenting Styles and How Do They Affect Your Child? How a parent raises their child can affect the child later on in life. There are four parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful (uninvolved). Each of these parenting styles can affect a child in some way. Some parenting styles have more negative outcomes than others. Some have both positive and negative outcomes. The authoritarian parenting style is a style in which the parent has the only say. This parenting style â€Å"is based on obedience and the expectation of a child obeying without an explanation required† (McMillian). Authoritarian parents are more likely to discipline their children. Within a child’s mind the possibilities are endless. Without imagination, the world we know today would not exist. Steve Jobs used his imagination to create Apple just as Walt Disney used his to create America’s beloved cartoon mouse. Even though some people associate imagination with children, it is something that as adults we should embrace as well. From babysitting, I have learned that imagination is a necessary tool to succeed in today’s technology based society. As technology advances, the demand for new ideas will increase dramatically so we can remain competitive. Although I never used it as well as Mary did when I was a kid, I am confident my imagination is something I will need in the future. Who knows, I might even become an Imagineer.
